Relocating to Sydney, advice on where to live?

Yet another person seeking advice on where in Sydney to live! I am married with three kids: School years 7, 2, and 1. They're very bright, so we'll be applying to selective high schools, but knowing that's far from certain, we need to live where we're guaranteed a catchment for an excellent comprehensive state high school. So far our front-runners are Killara and Cherrybrook. Any advice, pro or con, on those? Any other suggestions? Those are as far as I want to be from the CBD (50 minutes or so).

Also, if anyone has an inside line on a house rental, please let me know; we'll need a 4-bedroom, or possibly a 3-bedroom if it was otherwise perfect.

We've lived in the States our entire lives, so we're very excited but a little overwhelmed!
