: I'm going through another childhood/lifestyle
: change/adventure (pick one) in my life.
: Translation, I want to move to Sydney,
: Australia.
: However, how do I get started? I've talked
: with an Australian Immigration officer and
: he only knew about business visas. And
: bascially told me 'to marry an Ozzie'. Oh
: yes, big help.
: Careerwise I've worn many hats: marketing
: and advertising, technical writing, desktop
: publishing, event planning, tour directing,
: and more. Some I'd go back to, others never.
: Currently, I'm a freelance writer and
: political cartoonist.
: Can anyone out there contact me and help me
: get this whole process going? I'm aiming to
: move down by January of '10. Not a ton of
: time, but maybe enough.
: Thanks in advance,
: Mary from the States

mary, first, you could mary me. oh wait, i'll have to wait another 4 years before i'm eligible for citizenship. at least with a fiance visa thinks will move a lot faster.
but seriously, there are other visas besides business but it depends if you are eligible. best thing would be to troll on the dept of immigration website and get to know the different types and requirements.
getting down by Jan 10 will probably be tricky. i could suggest going for a working holiday visa, but if you;ve worn many career hats than you are likely not eligible (<= 30 years old). i got a PR visa sponsored by the state of NSW. my last day of work in Boston in mid Aug and flying to Sydney with 2 bags and a backpack and nothing else.
did this help? any questions? let me know. cheers.
