Don't worry it is easy and you don't have to go to the US Consulate. You can download the forms from the US Consulate website, get your photos taken, get a US money order (at larger AU Post offices - better in $USD right now than using the current exchange rate on their website) and send in by express post with return registered express post. I got mine back in about 4 days and I didn't pay to expedite the service. Mine was already expired, but that's ok you still qualify for a renewal.
