Hi,
We moved back here 3 years ago and it's taken all that time to adjust and find a decent Job. My Husband heard it all "You are too American" "You design like an American" "We don't like George Bush" "We don't believe in the war in Iraq", need I go on. That said, we have met people that are not as narrow mined or intimidated by his skills and he now has a fantastic job in North Sydney. These past three years left him depressed, angry and bitter and we were close to packing it in and heading back, then the recession happened and we are so pleased we are here. My Husband is 42 and from Long Island NY and his dad was Born and Raised in The Bronx. We are good friends with a couple who are from Queens and have talked about starting to make more of an effort for the holidays. We are now so happy we are here, they say it takes about 3-5 years to adjust. Feel free to email me if you want to get together for a coffee. Do you have kids as we live in the Eastern Suburbs, right near Centennial/Queens Park. Christine

: Hi,
: I'm from San Francisco and my husband is
: Australian. I've been living in Sydney for 8
: and a half years. It really is an adjustment
: and I understand how hard it is. It took me
: years to adjust but it was more about me
: having to accept that I was here and not at
: home and that this place is different but
: sometimes different things can be good too.
: It helps to have access to American things
: like food, TV shows, even to hear American
: accents in person. I've just opened an
: American-style bakery in Newtown and I have
: Americans come by everyday to have some
: traditional sweets and chat. You guys are
: welcome to come by. I am also doing NY style
: bagels or at least closer to that style than
: any Australian can get. If you're in Sydney,
: you can come by. The shop is located at 482
: King Street Newtown. It is called Buppa's
: Bakehouse.
