: My husband and I will be moving from NY to
: Sydney in a few months. We are trying to
: plan ahead and buy Aussie-compatible
: electronics while we are still stateside
: since it's so much cheaper) and then ship it
: across with the rest of our stuff.
:
: Did anyone else have any luck doing this?
: We've found two websites (below) that seem
: to sell what we're looking for, but want to
: make sure it will work before we invest the
: money.
:
: Thanks!

I wouldn't buy all that much in the way of electronics before moving. You can find some deals on things here and you don't have to gamble with if they will work or not. We only brought our Wii along with us and other smaller electronics that are compatible with 100/240 V output with the different cords portable speakers, ipod, computers, etc. American televisions won't work over here because of the different reception and most dvd players won't play australian dvd's. The other benefit to buying here is you don't have to wait the up to 3 months for your shipment to arrive. If you want to stock up on things American buy clothes, kids shoes (if you need them) cosmetics. If you pay cash you can negotiate prices at most of the bigger retailers for the electronics here. We also bought a lot used. Good luck with your move.
