Come, let us reason together.
Posted by Michael on 2/28/2002, 12:01 am On the surface, it could appear to a casual observer that what we have going on now is a reconciliation of the two Burman factions, not a "national" reconciliation. And once the two Burman factions(i.e., the NLD and SPDC) reach a consensus, they could present the major ethnic groups with a fait accompli Burman "core" solution with only minimal roles in the real political and military organs of national power. The ethnic groups would only be given tangible political power at the State level with the State military power remaining under the leadership of Burman generals. Any comments on this view? In the same vein, does anyone know the names and positions of the non-Burmans presently represented within the leadership of the NLD and the SPDC? With Metta, Michael
I have no doubt that the SPDC has insisted, and rightly so, that there will be no disintegration of the Union; and that the NLD has agreed to this point. Yet does anyone know how the key ethnic groups(e.g., Shans, Karens, Mons, Kachins, Chins, and Arkanese) are being integrated into the present "national" reconciliation process?
