Posted by Henry Chance My ancestor was Mary Lindsay (later McKerrow), William Schaw Lindsay's sister. Mary Lindsay's grand-daughter has quite a bit of information about Mary Lindsay's and William Schaw Lindsay's upbringing in her memoir, which may be of interest to you. Mary's great grand-daughter is still very much alive at 96 and has many of W.S.Lindsays letters from the 1840s to 1870s.

I am interested to hear that you have been able to track the family back to 1754; family legend here is that there is some relation to the Lindsays who are Earls of Crawford and Balcarres.
