In the 1900 Christchurch Star there is a birth notice:
Tuesday 8 May 1900 at "Greenford" Papanui, wife of R. Fairlie Hobson, a son.
I suspect that this R. Fairlie Hobson is my grandfather's brother Richard born 1871 in Hanwell, Middlesex, England. "Greenford" lies next to Hanford. The son may be Anthony William Fairlie Hobson a well known cricketer. "Anthony" was often the name given to the first born son in my Hobson line.
