Set up two poles on the ground so that there is a 15' space between the two of them (the poles are for you and not the horse), poles should be set up like this ------ ------- Begin your canter on the correct lead and then canter down the arena to the poles. Sidepass between the poles remove your leg and your horse should switch. The better you get, the quicker you can get your horse to switch. You are lightening the shoulder you want to lead by crossing between. So, if you are on the right lead, you would approach on the right of your poles, sidepass to the left between the poles and then simply let your horse go. Sounds simple enough, right? A major key is to sit up and trust your horse. Let me know if it works for you. I haven't been able to ride since he reminded me of this method so I'm curious.
