And no, you won't fall over! Silly! LOL! The other pole is just a visual marker for the rider - the horse really doesn't need it. I had it wrong though, you need to switch legs for the sidepass not after. You simply canter sideways (although, you'll still be moving forward). Don't try to overthink it. I'm not the best at describing it but that's what they suggested. I thought it was a great way and eventually, you'll be able to simply ask the horse to move over 6" or so and he'll switch.
