I use fly masks and a saline rinse product [like clear eyes] to prevent goops.
and the occasional squirt of antibiotic opthalmic ointment when it persists [available from your vet for usually less then $15/tube]
this has worked for me for the last 10+ years on my very sensitive-eyed girl.
