BAEN received the following information today:
--------------------
I own six of my own horses and have kept them in Half Moon Bay for almost twenty years. I have been a member of BAEN for quite some time. A recent move by the Half Moon Bay City Council, spear-headed by one person who doesn't want horses in our community, threatens all horse owners with elimination of our right to use publicly mandated equestrian and pedestrian recreational trails and beaches. The Half Moon Bay City Council has the matter on their agenda for Tuesday, July 21st. All of our local horse board, horse ranch, tack stores and other related facilities are carrying informational packets on what the Council is planning to do. We are all requesting a HUGE turnout at the meeting on the 21st in opposition to the proposed restriction of our rights. Horses have been an important part of the San Mateo County culture for decades and Poplar beach is one of the few public beaches where horses are allowed to be ridden.
This proposal applies to ALL equestrian use. If passed, it would eliminate the use of the beach at certain times and in certain places, and would prevent safe access to the beach entirely. This is the ONLY beach on the entire stretch of coast in San Mateo County in which horses are specifically permitted. All other beaches are no-horse beaches. The meeting is at the Adcock Community Center, 535 Kelly Avenue, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019, at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21st. Thanks so much for helping with this.
