(from someone else who rescued her) in a similar situation. Luckily, I'm on flat land and she gets about just fine. But it does appear it's getting harder and harder, even in the summer months. She came here with a really bad right knee. And while she seems content hanging out, I wish there was a way I could know for absolute sure if she's in pain or not, and has just adapted to her situation.
I don't know what happened to her to get her into this physical condition. I can tell, though, prior to this she was a pretty nice, stout well-built working mare.
I'm leaning towards putting her down this winter. I need to reconcile it in my head. It will be much easier when the winter hits and it's cold. Then I'll see how hard it is for her to move about, and that will be the decision.
No, I am not smarter than a 5th grader, but occasionally I am smarter than a 1st grader.
