I don't really understand how anyone could have suggested that you should put down the horse a month after you got her. Horses get hurt and go lame; it happens all the time. Sometimes it's minor, sometimes it's life ending.
I don't know if you had a thorough PPE, but even if the horse passed the PPE with flying colors, they still get hurt and go lame. It's the risk of having a horse.
The one thing I'm confused about is that you said she wasn't wanting to bear weight - if I had a horse that lame, I would have the vet out and get the horse medicated. You can do that while you figure out a long term plan.
I hope things work out for you and your horse, it sounds like a very difficult situation.
