This is another example of a successful trail ride business: www.mathersaddleandpackstation.com. From what I understand this family has had the concession for Camp Mather (which borders Yosemite) for many years. I rode with them this summer and the horses were wonderful. They work the horses all summer and then they are turned out for the winter. So they must have another source of income. Also, I will echo other posters' concerns about the type of people who tend to go on these rides. In my "expert" rider group there was a man behind me who started moaning loudly once we got away from the station. I asked him what was wrong and he said he had not ridden for ten years and was scheduled for a hernia operation. He did not think that riding in that condition was going to causing him so much pain. Needless to say the wrangler had to shorten the ride and keep us to a walk due to this man's overestimation of his abilities.
