that donated horses to us at my vet school and internship. The horses were well treated and all "experimentation" was done with the horse under general anesthesia or already deceased. The horses were anesthetized like any other surgical horse, but the horse never woke up from anesthesia, rather it was euthanized already under anesthesia. They felt no pain. And they made a tremendous contribution to the learning of many people. We got to practice procedures and surgery on live tissue, which is a wonderful learning tool. These days most vet schools have severely limited the amount of teaching done on live animals, so these kinds of opportunities are very useful. Nothing undignified about it.....
I vividly remember the horse that was set up after euthanaisa so that we could palpate the internal organs. It was very nice to be able to feel things in the real animal without worrying about hurting the animal. The experience was priceless.
Where I was the owner could designate the kind of things allowed, for example if nothing was to be done on a horse prior to anesthesia or euthanasia, then nothing was.....
That said, if the horse is stressed under unfamiliar environments as posted below, then perhaps it's not the thing for her.
