state that the horses were in any way 'mistreated' or hurt, just that the stress of the trip there, and examination etc... might be a not so warm and fuzzy way to be helped over the bridge.
I completely understand the learning part, it does have to happen, and am grateful that my vets could learn as well.
I am not sure however, that all owners are savy enough to stipulate all things they hope are not done 'before anesthesia', as I don't think they can or should be expected to think about what might be done to the horse...
and I think there are sometimes misconceptions that the horses might be 'cured' and live on a nice life after being donated... from what I've experienced that is not usually the case. Even the foals are sometimes used to learn on, but not always raised like 'I' would raise one, feet trimmed, wormed, etc... then they are sold at auction, often to kill buyers. That is to me a very undignified end.
I hope the OP finds a solution that makes her feel good about her decision, this is an exceptionally hard one to make under any circumstances
