If Davis is not an option and you decide to put her down, there may be a farrier science program in your area that you can donate the limbs to and she can still contribute. When I first heard of it I was a little put off myself, but after having taken the class where students dissect the legs I can not tell you how incredibly valuable an experience this is. The farrier in our area goes to the horse after it has been put down, but before the renderer comes and is very respectful and discreet. I understand this is not a decision that many people might make.
