I haven't been following your story so forgive me if you've already posted the symptoms/diagnosis but many, many vet schools search for lameness candidates.
for example, WSU (pullman, washington) was searching for horses for their Tilden trials- suspected navicular cases were treated to a free MRI and owners costs were covered up to $2,000 per day.
A georgia vet school is currently looking for candidates for the degenerative susupensory disease (name escapes me), forgive my vagueness.
Go to http://www.thehorse.com -it may take some searching but there's a school or an academic out there who'd probably be delighted with your horse's case.
