regarding the comment about the vet not giving a straight answer: I think it would be irresponsible for a vet to answer a question about a horse with ongoing lameness issues that he/she hadn't seen in 6 months. Vets can only look into a problem as deep as an owner's checkbook allows. I had an on/off lameness issue on all 4 legs with my horse. A bone scan (yes, cha-ching) gave me a firm answer.
I'm sorry you are going through this and it sounds like euthanasia is an option that isn't out of line. I hope you find an answer that you are comfortable with.
