While I knew that their hay/forage is what generates heat for them, I noticed that when I have been blanketing, as in at night, and now for the storm, they eat less. I think because they aren't fighting to stay warm they don't feel compelled to eat so much.
They have white salt, plenty of water, dry weed pasture for forage, and I got them some Busy Snacker bags so it takes them longer to eat the same amount. But, more importantly, they don't waste as much, AND I can actually see how much they are eating since they aren't stomping it into the ground.
This is two 28 yr old Cushing's Arabs that I have...and I body clipped them both about 4-5 weeks ago.
