don't need as much feed to keep warm. That may be why they eat less when blanketed. But you are also right that big storms are stressful and so they are more on edge than normal so will eat less. Therefore blanketing is good insurance if that is in fact the case.
With your busyhorse bags you will be well set to know exactly what they are eating especially if you weigh it before feeding.
