One issue with grass can be that if it has a very high moisture content they can not eat enough to meet their dry matter requirement. This is possibly more of an issue with spring grass which has high moisture versus fall grass (not sure of moisture content of fall grass specifically) but it is something to consider.
Living in England we had weather like this commonly and always supplemented hay even though we had year round access to good pasture. As you have noticed they don't like getting water in their ears and may not want to graze. They maintain body heat better by standing in a group with their butts to the rain where ever there is shelter. I would put hay in the shed if it were me.
