The once/year kind is considered sufficient now that the virus has been around for awhile (not a hotbed of actvitiy any more with "naieve" horse and bird flocks). The UC Davis recommendation has been for less, as the virus has become more established in the area. I'd do whatever your vet recommends. We're doing once/year.
