Missouri Fox Trotters and Shoes question

Hey....I've been looking at some Missouri Fox Trotters and other gaited horses. They all seem to have shoes. I never shoe my horses. I trim all my own but have never had a gaited horse. Anywho.....do they all require shoes or something? The one today didn't have back shoes and those two feet looked way better than the front to me. Healthier. anyway...looking for input. thanx
