He has been eating flax for the last 6 or 7 years at least. No Cushings. IR is completely controlled by diet and exercise.
One thing to possibly consider is the effect of a small amount of flax on an animal the size of a horse.Personally, I'd be much more concerned about iron overload messing things up.
I think we are seeing more horses diagnosed with Cushings because they can live so much longer now. 25 years ago, just about the time ivermectin came out, a 20 year old horse was considered ancient and many didn't live long after that.
I am terribly sorry about your nephew - I hope he recovers.
