My horses were always hand floated and then the last time I had it done it was a power float and I refused to have them done again. Awful maybe but it's only now that I have one having problems with one and it's our new one, Aladdin. Even my son's horse Buddy who we've had 2 years and is over 20 doesn't seem to have a any hooks or problems.
But my horses needed more sedation with the power float than the hand float and my big old morgan didn't need any sedation with the hand float, of course that was way back in the late 80's early 90's when the only vet that would make ranch calls in Patterson was an old cow vet who saw horses on the side.
There's just so many studies out there against the power floats now that they've been studied so much it floors me that most vets won't even talk about hand floats.
