yeah funny that someone could do a basic hand float in 20 minutes, that is if there wasn't additional mouth pathology that needed to be addressed. If a horse had a problem way in the back, my dentist might need to use a speculum also. Would depend on the horse.
The HSUS is rewriting their equine dental protocol to recommend the natural balance dentistry to all their equine facilities so it must have some merit. One of our local vets was there soaking it up and agreed 100% with the dental assesments, he has also resisted the movement to the more convenient power dentistry
When Phil went over the damage that is easily caused by power tools and various skulls that had dentistry and did not have dentistry and explained biomechanics in depth I wouldn't let a power float within 10 feet of any horse. I held a horse while it had it's teeth done that was killed by power floating, by a vet. I've heard of a lot more problems with power floating lately than happy stories.
My friend had her horses religiously power floated here for the past 4 years and until she switched dentists she didn't even realize the problems that were caused. She didn't realize the dentistry was causing the crankiness and soreness, the difference was night and day. Phil often goes to horse shows to do a small adjustment on show horses, the owners kind of roll their eyes but call back in amazement when their horses perform much better in their classes afterwards. He has some pretty funny stories.
