Yes - I really should learn how to give an IV. There is a vet clinic about 45 minutes away, but sometimes you can't always trailer an extremely ill or injured horse, and horses have a knack for having emergencies outside of regular business hours. No vet will come to my place 
I can ask for instructions on doing this - it doesn't look too terribly difficult.
I have been extremely fortunate to have very healthy animals, and outside of two dramatic injuries over the last 25 years, our guys are a pretty low maintenance bunch. However, you never know when that can change.
