No kidding, Highway 1 is SCAREY!!!!!
There are 12 pens, outhouses, picnic tables, fire pit. Lots of trails, but not what I would call beginner friendly (steep, narrow switchbacks, lots of water crossing, busy with hikers and bikers). You can easily get to Muir Beach (which was worth it....!), but you do have to walk down a portion of Hwy 1 and people drive crazy!
