I used them with lots of success on one of my retired horses. It kept him comfortable and big plus, we were able to reset the shoes many times so one pair lasted roughly 10 months. The main differance between steel shoes and the plastic shoes is you need to make sure the hoof is beveled more. I had no problem keeping the hoof clean. The open space is plenty big to allow the foot to breathe.
This particular horse I just tried with Epona shoes. He got an abscess and the vet pulled off the Epona shoe so the abscess could drain. The only experienced Epona farrier lives about 2 hours from me. The Epona farrier can't come back for 3 more weeks so I feel abandoned by that shoer. So I am going back to the plastic shoes that my in town shoer has done before and I know works.
My mare, the shoes worked for her, but unfortunately since she doesn't have good hoof quality, she kept losing them. I had to go back to a steel shoe with her since steel shoes can be shaped with clips.
My recommendation for you is to buy the clear shoes. That makes it easier for the farrier to see where he is placing the nails. Also, if your horse's feet seem to fall close between two sizes, buy both sizes and let your farrier decide. They are good about refunds and exchanges.
