Or get someone who stick it out and see if they cannot reach him in this way. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't if the rider is not confident to begin with on a horse that might get to pitching a bit. I agree he shouldn't be doing this at all, but sometimes it helps to leave the arena for a bit and then slowly work back to it. I've seen people over-drill their horses in a round pen or arena until the horse just says, enough of this and starts fighting back.
