Ulcerguard & Gastroguard contain slow release "pearls" for which they have a patent on. When you buy compounded Omeprazole you are getting nothing but the straight powder, not as effective, but even I used the compounded version w/ my last horse since true treatment is so expensive.
Many have also had issues getting horses that have been on straight omeprazole for a long period of time off of it. There is often a crash period & I have seen this first hand with off the tracks.
There is a term for it acid backwash or something to that effect.
