I don't know what your management situation is but in the meantime you should give turmeric paste a try. I have seen it do wonders with arthritis and some other lameness that could not be figured out in horses. I also put my arthritic dog on it who could no longer jump on her chair and now she is practially flying up there! It also helps cleanse the liver which overal improves health in so many ways. I have managed many old horses that were mine and boarders. They always ask me that question but there are many things I look for before I give the answer. Is the horse happy and enjoying life still. Can they lay down? That is a biggee cause if they can't that is not good and if they do decide to they probably can't get up. I had one cushings horse that was super skinny and when he was 32 we started saying no way could he make it through winter. We said that every year until finally at 38 he did get sick and we put him down. Its a personal chioce based on so many things but its your right and your decision and the horse counts on us to do the right thing.
