If two adult parties can't choose to make a contract between them, and have it known that it will be upheld in court, there is absolutely no incentive for anyone anywhere in the state to keep their word on anything. Other than morals and lack of being shady..
It seems to me that in landlord tenant (people) cases, deadbeat renters are seriously favored over property owners.
And I'm speaking as someone who was a tenant for decades.
I know of tenants who lived rent free for months, and some for a year.
Somethings is wrong with the system.
I know tenants need to be protected from nightmare landlords, but it doesn't go both ways in CA. Come across the country and you can take measures in days, evict in weeks, not years.
