My contract spells out the basic lien law and time frames for notification etc., My friend who owns boarding facility uses civil code 1834-5 in her contracts and has enforced it before. That code bascially says if you don't pick up your animals within 2 weeks of n otification to do so they belong to the premise owner to sell or destroy. Most of the deadbeats I have had over the years just left without paying and I let it go, not worth it. I did end up owning one horse the lady disappeared and her mom signed horse over to me. I always worried she would come back and sue me but never heard from her again.Ini California you can bet the person who is the flake will almost always win out, this is a liberal state where handouts are expected and enforced by the law.
