Animal Service Officers and Fremont Fire rescued a baby colt yesterday in Morrison Canyon who had been in a ravine for two days. The male colt is believed to be about six days old and is being bottle fed by staff. Veterinarian staff are currently looking over the baby and assessing an injury to his back leg. An investigation is being conducted as to how he got there. Staff have named him Valentine. We will keep everyone posted about his health. City of Fremont, CA Government Fremont Fire Department
Update: The baby colt has a broken pelvis which is very close to an artery. We are hoping to have him seen at UC Davis on Tuesday or Wednesday at which point we'll have a better idea of our next steps. The surgery is expected to be in the range of about $10,000.
We don't have a method for accepting donations online, but a very kind citizen has set up a Go Fund Me account https://www.gofundme.com/qtxyxgja.
The Tri-City Animal Shelter will accept donations during shelter business hours Tues-Fri 12:00-5:00 pm and Saturday 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. We will provide a better update once he is seen by the UC Davis Veterinarian.
