They are all getting taken off the property without Mom way before they are weaned anyway. I just take them on walks and we leave Mom behind. She's the one having the hissy fit initially. No big deal if you don't have other foals, again the point is you are building the relationship with this baby, not providing horsey friends. Actually it really works to your advantage if the foal doesn't have another horse . . . then they really crawl in you pocket! But again if your intention is to have this foal and you be partners for life than it's the time you spend together that pays off most.
Glad to know someone else 'lives' those 'kid storys' with their horses . . . it sure paid off for me and my horses.
