I remember when my bay horse got a foxtail in his eye when he was just a yearling. The same issues as with dogs and cats. They can get in the eyes or in the gums and cause problems. If the horses can get most of them grazed down before they dry out, you can dodge the bullet, but if they start drying up and sticking in their manes and tails, you should see if you can get the place mowed.
