Cranking the head around

Gotta agree with Gail here. All that cranking the head around disconnects the hind end and teaches the horse resistance. Riding on a line is great advice and getting your horse to work from your leg and your seat and responsive to cues is the right thing to do.
Quite frankly, cranking a horses head around is really dangerous on a steep switchback. Best on trail if the horse can see and choose where the feet go.
