It's a dangerous vaccine known to cause vaccinosis in horses and cancer in dogs and cats and the risk of getting rabies is so very, very small. Is it worth the risk? Well, the worst part of rabies is that it's zoonotic, so you have the chance that you could get it, too. I would give it to my horses if there was a reported case of rabies in my area, but I wouldn't worry about just hopping in the trailer for an overnight somewhere else. No one wants the side effects, but you certainly don't want the disease. You just have to think about it and weigh the risks of the potential for vaccinosis vs the extremely tiny chance of actually contracting the disease.
