My experience with vets is that at least half of them tell the owner what the owner wants to hear. And diet and nutrition is a beast unto itself. There is only so much one person can know. What the vets don't have is the experience of woking with specific horses every day, for hours, over years. That experience often gives you a different set of information, which is why I put the question out. I've found adding rice bran to diet to be highly beneficial with most of the horses I care for. Ground flax is even more beneficial so additional oil does seem to be good for them. But I am concerned about the long term effects of so much starch.
The latest addition is IR and it does look like the rice bran is bad for her.
