When Mystery was young and semi-wild I had him in a 40 acre pasture. Oh boy do I remember the days when I would walk up to him only to have him turn tail and with that arab tail high up all the way to the other side! 1/2 hour later I'd try again and off he would go! It was just too much fun (for him!) I had to compromise, find a smaller pasture he could still exercise and socialize in when not working but still be at a regular boarding stable where he could learn manners. Manners not just with me, but learn when you are tied next to a strange horse you don't make faces and kick, when trucks and motorcyles go by they won't kill you, etc. etc. etc. Become civilized. As he became older he got his big pasture priveleges back again and when he is retired he will live in a really big one.... If you can find a place that offers both things it would be beneficial. A happy horse will learn faster and have a better attitude, but don't make him too happy cause you know what? They really don't prefer our company when they have a herd to live with on some acres.....
