to get the human to acknowledge a response from the beast (I'm told this works well with children, also).
We tend to take their subtle, positive offerings for granted. When our finger is poised over the clicker we are paying attention and we are eager for an opportunity to click. It's a good thing.

Some decades ago I attended an educational session on "Bridge and Target Training" - I can't recall the gal's name at the moment but I still have the manual. Clicker and B&T concepts have many similarities. It may be that Clicker Training is a friendly and fun evolution of the Bridge and Target concept (my amatuer suggestion, only). Clicker Training is easy to learn and apply, and it's fun.

I am unable to imagine any possibility of disaster the result of Clicker Training but if there is any way that this could happen we can be assured that this board will apprise and regale us with tales of horror

Get yourself a clicker and go have some fun. Creatures like to hear us laugh. I'm including children in the creature category.
