My mare did the same last year and even though she has been on a different allergy med (Allergysaver), non steroid as she has horrible hooves and I fear laminitus, her hives have again started to show up this year. (sigh) (photo is from last year) I was told it was caused by heat and flies. she came from CA. It was not even close to being hot here last year and we dont have a fly problem but I bought a belly band fly sheet and started to use products to keep flies off. Didn't work at all. She got worse. All four legs swelled. She was miserable. Still dont know the cause, sometime late Sept, early Oct they went away. She is in a whole different state (WA) different and better balanced diet, its a battle that I would not wish on anyone. Minor hives, no biggie, but when it gets to this its so frustrating!
