None of my heavy haulers were 4wd. My lite haulers (with the exception of the tacoma) are 4x4s. My next big truck will be a 4wd because when I don't have a trailer, I like to play in the mud. If your just going to be on paved roads and trailhead/show parking lots I don't think you will need a 4x4 at all. If you were doing big camping trips in rough terrain, then yes, get the 4x4. Just consider your terrain and how often you'll be needing that 4wd. Personally, if you need a 4x4 to get through a muddy road, should you really be pulling a heavy trailer through it?
