horses that over reach/forge may catch an shoe edge and pull them off but that hasn't a thing to do with it being a first set. Good farrier will shoe as horse dictates need. bell boots won't keep them from pulling a shoe off anyway, it's more to protect the bulb of the heel from striking of hind foot.
haven't read the other posts but guessing a lot advising against shoes. unless a horse has shown that they need shoes (ouchy, correction) really no need for them.
