Boarding Advice- Saratoga Area Posted by rebeccajdaily on 7/2/2009, 9:23 am 99.39.151.53 I looking for a advice on boarding in the Saratoga/Cupertino area. I would be boarding an easy going 10 year old mare and am interested in trail riding (walking distance or backing up to trails would be ideal). I work in the area, but am not very familiar with horse boarding up there. Please let me know if you have an recommendations or suggestions. Thanks!  Post a Response

They have a bulletin board in the back of the store, where a lot of people post openings for boarding (esp. private places, where you may be more likely to find close access to trails). There are a couple boarding barns out that way (Garrods, Whispering Creek, Brookside), but I don't think any have direct access to the trail system up above Saratoga. Garrods does have some trails connected through the winery (they run public trail rides on them). Whispering Creek might have access...they back up to some PG&E property, but I don't know if you can ride on it. Brookside is closer to Stevens Creek Canyon area, but I don't know if you can ride directly onto it...  Post a Response

Brookside has direct access to Picchetti Ranch and Stevens Creek. Garrod has direct access to Fremont Older Open Space and Stevens Creek. I board at Whispering Creek and teach at Brookside. Two can fit, but only if people don't park their cars in that space. If they do, you're SOL. Plus, cars park along both sides. Parking a horse trailer there is annoying. Not user friendly is what I'm getting from that... Not like the olden days, when I could ride from my backyard all the way to Stevens Creek Reservoir, and back. That was like a 25 mile day, and I had no idea about endurance riding back then. It hadn't yet been thought up. But, my little mustang cross was a good little trooper. Now I have to worry about things like, can I fit my trailer in there or not?  Post a Response

The manager posts here occasionally, but I can't remember her screen name. This place is not advertised, but it's a small family run, clean facility. I'm not 100% sure about trail access, but maybe someone here knows. Garrod Farms is up the road, and there used to be Saratoga Stables, down the road from Garrods, but that place was taken over by Garrod's.  Post a Response
