There is a trail riding outfit that goes out of there. They have 1hr, 2hr, and longer rides, even moonlight rides. They do a particular loop trail depending on the length of the ride. We took the 2hr ride which goes along the river bed and out to the beach. It was really cool. There was a guide, but that's OK. I wouldn't want to get lost on a strange horse anyways. I think that if I didn't live in the area, and I were vacationing, I would totally consider renting a horse to ride out and see some scenery I've never seen before. My husband arranged the whole thing, and he's not even a horse person. So, they could accommodate a wide range of riding experience also, since we had some who had very limited experience, up to some who had been lifelong riders. They had some really nice Belgians, and some other grade types. All seemed well cared for and the guide took care to place each horse in a particular order so that there would be no problems in the string. Sorry, this should have gone under the original post, but if you had to pattern your outfit after someone, these people do a very nice job of it. There is also Western Trail Adventures in Sunol Wilderness Park in the East Bay. I think they still have rental horses there and they have been highly recommended. They used to have a rental string out at Tilden Park in Berkeley, but that was years ago.
