All would depend on if she is symptomatic or asymptomatic, what you plan to do with her riding-wise etc. I've got an NH mare. She is asymptomatic and I work to keep her that way. She was started as a 2 yo but hasn't been ridden in about 10 years. I've toyed with the idea of riding her again but have opted not to change her "retired" status in an effort to keep her stress-level down and not have her go asymptomatic. Also, you can through diet and exercise, control to a large extent the potential to become symptomatic. As to breeding, that's your call and what you feel you want to take a chance with. Breeding an NH horse to NN horse will still result in a 50% of the foal being NH. I know AQHA is fazing out registry (or at least was trying to -- but that halter contingent is pretty vocal) of NH horses (HH horses CANNOT be registered). I believe APHA will continue to allow registration of NH horses as well (again, a large, vocal contingent).
No, I am not smarter than a 5th grader, but occasionally I am smarter than a 1st grader.
